Defining your goals is a very important step because it helps you to determine your path. If you want to define your goals, the first thing that I would suggest is to write your goals on a sheet of paper. After that, differentiate between the long term and short term goals and categorize them according to their type.

Now, make a clear strategy on how you are going to achieve that goal. If you are confused about this, then research a lot. The research will help you learn what you are doing wrong if you think you are facing problems. Writing your goals on a paper is important because it will continuously remind you of your priorities in life.

Now that you have written your goals and made a strategy to achieve those goals, the next thing that you should do is to keep a record of your performance. It is important to you review your goals periodically and judge yourself in achieving that goal.

If you think you are making progress, perfect! But if not, then it is the time to assess your strategy and check the reasons that are causing problems.

The goals that you set should be SMART. SMART goals mean that your goals should be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-based. If you are still confused that what a SMART goal is, let me elaborate.

A goal should be specific means that you should not set a vague goal. Your goal should be unique and it should have the ability to show you the path towards your destination. For example, you want to be a good artist.Define your goals

This goal is not considered as specific because the artist is a vague term. There are so many types of art and artists. This goal does not tell you whether you want to be a painter, a graphic designer, a sculptor, an actor or a musician.

A goal should be attainable. It should not be something that is considered impossible. You should be able to achieve your goal. For example, if your goal is to be a painter within 15 minutes but you don’t even know the basics of painting, then this goal is not considered as an attainable goal.

An attainable goal would be, I want to be a painter and sell my paintings on Etsy. Now this goal seems attainable. The goal should be relevant and time-based as well. A relevant goal is something that can be related to your skills, dreams etc.
